FARM:shop, Dalston - Eat, drink, grow, work, play.

Picture
A farm in a shop
20 Dalston Lane, once a derelict shop, is the world's first urban farming hub - a workspace, cafe and events venue packed to the rafters with living and breathing food - literally a farm in a shop.

We opened our doors in March 2011 and is on the way to becoming the meeting place of choice for London's food lovers and urban farmers aswell as a special place to rest your feet, have a coffee and smell the countryside next time you're down in Dalston.

What

At FARM:shop exhibitions change with the seasons and nature takes it's course. We are currently growing food in the following ways -

 - 'Aquaponic' micro fish farming
- High tech Indoor allotment
- Rooftop chicken coop
- Polytunnel

Things change fast as food is 'planted' and harvested throughout the year. To see us grow make sure you come by at different times of the year.

Recommendations

"FARM:shop will bring an emerging kind of art to a wider public. Art that is interested in cycles, natural materials, growth and roots rather than 'original' creations that hang disconnected, in time and space."

Franceso Manacorda, former curator of The Barbican. Currently Artistic Director of Artissima in Turn, Italy.

"If we are going to create a world free from fossil fuels, then we'll need to imagine it first. Bold and amusing statements backed up by real practical ideas like FARM:shop, show how powerful creativity can be."

Amelia Gregory of Amelia's magazine

"For every real picture we have of urban food production, there are a dozen computer mock-ups. The case for cities that are intimately connected with the source of their food has been made. The problem is that not enough people are turning it into a reality...yet."
